Project Description

Aegis Protective Services

Aegis Protective Services Jim O’Dwyer with Training Candidates

Who? AEGIS Protective Services is a market leading producer and supplier of NHS Security Officer training and certification.

What? AEGIS required a new responsive website to fulfill two main functions: 1st, public information presentation with eCommerce functionality, and 2nd, a members only student learning portal for delivery of their training course content, exams, and certification (a complete Learning Management System).

Why? AEGIS was keen to embrace UX design thinking so as to optimise the User Experience of their final product. I was commissioned to provide a complete end to end UX/UI design service in order to fulfill the project objectives.

As per my UX/UI design process I applied a five phase approach.

[PORTFOLIO CAVEAT] – Information provided below aims to highlight the main points of concern or focus within the project. It does not detail the minutia of each phase nor detail every single action performed. If you have any questions or would like to know more about how I handled a particular aspect of the AEGIS Protective Services project, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

UX/UI Project Phase One

PHASE ONE: Following an initial brainstorming session, stakeholder groups and relationships where established, several proposed and required user processes discussed, the likely context of use and possible technical implications were also roughly documented.

Regarding the Learning Management System, training content, exam content, and eventual certification would all be handled and delivered via a web-based UI, and would need to be accessible from a range of devices. User research carried out through informal interviews with existing security staff revealed ‘amongst other things’, a range of technical capabilities, motivational factors for completing training, and pain points encountered through completion of previous training and/or use of learning orientated software and apps. Analysis of NHS and Security Industry Authority  (SIA) regulations, requirements and existing data provided rich demographic information regarding prospective users.
